Written in XML Schema, this schema is much more complex than previous versions, and is intended to be practicable. It includes elements which define:
- Persons participating in historical events
- Classifications of historical events
- Events which span time
- Events whose dates are relative to those of other events
- Multiple resources for an event, including those in non-digital (physical) media.
This schema is available at http://heml.mta.ca/heml-cocoon/schemas/2001-07-02/heml.xsd, and it has automatically generated documentation.
No document types ancillary to this schema are available now.
We are generating documents conforming to this schema using the currently-free XMLSpy Beta2.

Heml XML Documents
This schema is a DTD (we intend to use XML Schema in the future) and is available at http://heml.mta.ca/heml-cocoon/schemata/20010402/heml.dtd .
It should be used to produce heml documents to be transformed by this website.
A translation into XML Schema is also available.
XHTML Module (xhtml+heml documents)
We are working on producing a schema describing our xhtml superset. For now, use the 'Sample Documents' listed in the navigation bar as models.
Filelist Documents
Filelist documents aggregate other documents; their function will be superseded by 'jackdaw' documents in v1.
